Employers Grow Optimistic on 2012 Hiring, ManpowerGroup Survey Also Sees Increased Hiring

PHILADELPHIA – March 15, 2012 – U.S. employers are growing more optimistic about 2012, according to a survey by Right Management, the talent and career management experts within ManpowerGroup. One in three companies predict renewed growth and increased hiring for the rest of the year. A year ago at this time only one in five U.S. employers were confident about growth or hiring.

Right Management surveyed senior executives at 631 organizations across the U.S. representing the government, non-profit, public and private sectors.

Respondents were asked about their expectations for 2012 regarding their workforce needs:

  •  36% It will be a year of growth and recovery marked by increased hiring and new talent development initiatives.
  •  55% It will be similar to 2011 with sluggish hiring and postponed HR initiatives.
  •  11% It will be a year of stagnation with more cutbacks and restructurings.

Right Management’s findings are similar to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook, issued March 13. In that survey, U.S. employers were their most optimistic since prior to the recession and project a rise in hiring of one to two percent.

“Beneath the caution, organizations are becoming more positive about the economy and their own businesses,” said Bram Lowsky, Group Executive Vice President Americas of Right Management. “There have been so many ‘false positives’ in the past two years that most executives temper their enthusiasm until they see consistent, strong data. But the numbers from our study suggest a clear upward trend, especially with respect to hiring.”
